Pune couple’s IVF success draws attention to stigma around male fertility testing

Indira IVF Pune has reported a successful IVF outcome in a case involving male-factor infertility caused by Klinefelter syndrome (47, XXY), highlighting the need for routine male fertility evaluations.

The couple, aged 36 and 34, had been attempting conception for four years. Standard investigations completed earlier had focused primarily on the female partner. However, comprehensive male assessment at Indira IVF revealed elevated FSH, low testosterone and the chromosomal abnormality associated with Klinefelter syndrome.

“Underlying male reproductive disorders often go undetected due to stigma and delayed testing,” said Dr Amol Subhash Lunkad, IVF Specialist. “Early evaluation enables precision treatment.”

The clinical team administered micro-TESE for sperm retrieval followed by ICSI-IVF, laser hatching, PGT-A embryo screening, sperm preservation and frozen embryo transfer. The couple conceived successfully and delivered a genetically normal baby.

Indira IVF said the case reinforces the importance of recognising male infertility as a key component of reproductive health.
