Brown Hair Becomes the Season’s Bridal Sensation, Inspired by Pantone’s Mocha Mousse

Move over reds and golds—brown hair is the unexpected showstopper of the 2025 Indian wedding season. Traditionally dismissed as too soft for celebrations, brown is now the most sought-after shade among brides and bridesmaids, thanks to Pantone’s Colour of 2025: Mocha Mousse.

The warm, dimensional tone has inspired a spectrum of browns—hot chocolate, caramel, toasted almond and molten mocha—that stylists say offer depth, elegance and a contemporary twist.

“Brown has had a cultural glow-up,” says Shailesh Moolya of Godrej Professional, who breaks down why the shade is winning hearts. “It complements every outfit, suits every Indian skin tone and photographs beautifully. It’s the hair equivalent of a perfect nude lipstick.”

From glossy chocolate melts to almond-toned balayage, salons are reporting a steep rise in demand for multi-tonal, light-catching brown styles that look rich both on and off camera. With wedding content dominated by candid reels and cinematic photos, brown’s ability to capture movement has made it a favourite.

The shade’s versatility is another reason for its rise. Brown glows under haldi sunlight, blends beautifully with mehendi hues and shines under sangeet spotlights. It also works across undertones—from dusky and olive to neutral and fair.

This season also marks a rise in smarter colouring. Stylists are prioritising hydration-heavy formulas and shine-boosting blends to protect hair against humidity, heat and continuous styling.

Beyond aesthetics, brides say brown offers emotional warmth—a quiet luxury that feels personal and grounding.
