From Concept to Combat in 3 Years: Vikram VT 21 Armoured Platform Flagged Off

In a notable demonstration of rapid defence innovation, the Vikram VT 21 advanced armoured platform has been developed and flagged off for field trials in under three years.

The wheeled variant (AAP-Wh), developed by VRDE (DRDO) in collaboration with Bharat Forge, Tata Advanced Systems, and MSMEs, marks a key milestone in fast-tracked military platform development.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Samir. V. Kamat noted that this project is testament to the effectiveness of the Development Cum Production Partner (DCPP) model, in bringing together DRDO’s expertise and industry partners’ scale, to leapfrog platform design and development.

The system integrates a ruggedised vehicle chassis with an unmanned turret, enhancing survivability and combat efficiency.

Amit Kalyani, VC & JMD of Bharat Forge Ltd, highlighted that the Vikram is a feat of systems engineering that brings together a ruggedised vehicle chassis and unmanned turret.

With Technical Evaluation Committee clearance already secured, the platform is now ready for advanced trials and potential induction.
