Mariners set to acquire reliever Yimi García from Blue Jays

In a move to strengthen their bullpen, the Seattle Mariners have acquired reliever Yimi García from the Toronto Blue Jays. The trade, reported by Jeff Passan of ESPN, involves sending left fielder Jonatan Clase and catcher/outfielder Jacob Sharp to Toronto in exchange for García.

García, 33, has been impressive this season, boasting a 3-0 record and a 2.70 ERA in 29 appearances. With 42 strikeouts in 30 innings and five saves, he has been a reliable arm for the Blue Jays. The veteran pitcher, originally from the Dominican Republic, has played 10 seasons in the majors with teams including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins, Houston Astros, and Toronto Blue Jays.

The Mariners are currently in a tight race in the AL West, trailing the Houston Astros by just one game and leading the Texas Rangers by 2.5 games. This acquisition could provide the necessary depth and experience to help Seattle make a strong push in the division.

Jonatan Clase has appeared in 19 games for the Mariners this season, while Jacob Sharp has been playing with the Single-A Modesto Nuts.
