Joan Mir extends contract with Honda MotoGP until 2026

Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) has announced that Joan Mir will remain with the factory MotoGP team until the end of the 2026 season. This new two-year deal confirms Mir’s continued commitment to Honda, despite challenging seasons aboard the RC213V.

Mir, the 2020 MotoGP World Champion, has been Honda’s top performer this season, currently standing 18th in the riders’ standings with 13 points. His decision to extend his contract comes as a vote of confidence in the team’s potential and a shared belief in improving the bike’s performance.

“I’m very happy to continue with Honda and HRC,” said Mir. “This partnership has been important to me, and I believe that by working together, we can improve the RC213V. We are focused on making progress for the remainder of this season and beyond.”

Honda has faced a tough season, with none of its riders breaking into the top 10 in the first half of the year. The team is currently last in the manufacturers’ standings. Despite these struggles, HRC is optimistic about Mir’s role in the development of their MotoGP program, especially after the departure of six-time champion Marc Marquez.

HRC President Koji Watanabe expressed confidence in Mir’s abilities and commitment: “This has been a challenging season for us, but Mir’s dedication and perseverance have been invaluable. We are grateful for his unwavering spirit and look forward to working together to meet our fans’ expectations.”

With this contract extension, Honda’s rider lineup for 2025 will remain unchanged, including teammate Luca Marini. Test riders Stefan Bradl and Aleix Espargaro will also support the team, with Espargaro joining from Aprilia after retiring from active competition.
