Employees of Tenneco Clean Air India Limited’s Chakan plant carried out a plogging drive near Mahadev Temple in Nighoje, Chakan, aimed at improving public cleanliness and raising environmental awareness.
The area surrounding the temple is a busy public zone prone to dry waste accumulation. The drive focused on cleaning the surroundings and promoting responsible waste disposal among local residents and visitors.
About 95 employees participated in the initiative. Volunteers were briefed on safety guidelines, waste segregation and reducing plastic use, and were encouraged to carry reusable water bottles. Each participant received a volunteer kit with waste collection bags and brooms before commencing the activity.
Mr. Arvind Chandra, whole-time Director and CEO, Tenneco India, said:
“In a rapidly growing industrial region like Chakan, open dumping and unmanaged waste have real impacts on roads, local health, and the daily life of residents and workers. Through this plogging drive, Tenneco Clean Air India is turning awareness into action by encouraging responsible waste disposal and recycling, while actively involving our employees in building cleaner, greener communities. This reflects how we approach sustainability, not just in our operations, but in the communities, we are part of.”
A total of 43 waste bags weighing 290.2 kg were collected during the drive and handed over to the municipal garbage collection van. The waste was segregated into paper and plastic and sent for recycling and appropriate disposal.
