U.S. and Brazil Form Climate Partnership to Tackle Environmental Challenges

The U.S. Treasury Department and Brazil’s Ministry of Finance have announced a new partnership aimed at aligning their environmental and climate policies. This initiative, unveiled on July 26, marks a significant step in their collaboration to address climate change and promote sustainable development.

The partnership, known as the Brazil Fazenda-U.S. Treasury Climate Partnership, will support efforts in both public and private sectors to tackle climate issues, create green jobs, and develop effective environmental policies. The collaboration, which began in 2023, underscores the strong economic ties between the two nations, built on trade and investment.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen emphasized the importance of this partnership, noting that both countries share a commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth. She highlighted recent climate events, including severe flooding in southern Brazil, as urgent reminders of the need for resilient infrastructure and robust climate action.

“This partnership builds on our ongoing efforts and reflects our shared priorities related to climate and environmental challenges,” Yellen said. “Our goal is to work together to advance climate initiatives and address the pressing issues affecting our countries and the world.”
