Vodafone Idea Limited has rolled out a new value-added service for prepaid customers by launching handset theft and loss insurance plans linked directly to prepaid recharges. Vi is the only telecom operator in India to introduce such a recharge-linked insurance proposition.
The insurance plans cover handset loss or theft up to ₹25,000 and are available at price points starting from ₹61. The initiative comes amid rising smartphone replacement costs, which typically range between ₹20,000 and ₹25,000 for mid-range devices.
Vi said the offering replaces complicated claim processes with a digital-first experience, simplifying documentation and speeding up claims. The insurance is integrated seamlessly into recharge packs, ensuring easy access and affordability.
The company added that the initiative aligns with its broader strategy to deliver value-added digital experiences to prepaid customers.
